Surveys for Public Relations

FlyResearch has been helping PR agencies and departments make headlines for almost 10 years.  We've run over 300 PR studies and helped our clients get covered online, in print, on radio and on TV.

Methodology - How it all works (usually)

  1. Once we receive a brief or some draft questions from a client we then review that internally and make comments and suggestions to improve the newsworthiness (if we can) and to ensure any research claims produced will be valid.  Because we've done so many PR surveys we've developed a good eye for what works with journalists.
  2. We then respond to the client usually within hours with a suggested survey and we get scripting.
  3. We incorporate any changes from the client (or the client's client!) and then launch the survey once we have sign off.  Often this is the same day as we received the brief.
  4. We can target most core consumer groups using our own or our partner's panels:
    • nationally representative sample is popular obviously
    • housewive, office worker or parent samples also tend to connect well
    • business sample can be done quickly too (eg SMEs).  Harder to find samples will inevitably lengthen fieldwork though.
    • multi country consumer studies are extremely cost effective online these days - something that certainly was not true just 5 years ago - and an international approach often gets headlines purely by comparing Brits with our near and not so near neighbours abroad.
  5. Once we have launched the survey the fieldwork usually takes little more than a day but we can provide real time updates to help any one writing a particularly time sensitive press release.  The general results will be clear after 100 - 300 results but for consumer PR it's pretty hard to get coverage without doing 1,000 interviews so that tends to be what we must do.  B2B samples will be smaller (100-300 typically or maybe 500 for SMEs).
  6. When the target number of interviews is reached we close the survey and send over data tables - we automatically provide splits by Age, Gender and Region and can provide as many other slices as required.
  7. Most clients do not require a report but we are happy to cost this in if desired and will of course always discuss the topline results to help share our understanding of them with any client who wants this.
  8. That's pretty much it.  Quick, simple, helpful results.

Benefits of working with Fly

  • Our PR Practice has done literally hundreds of surveys purely for PR.
  • You will be working with experienced people with a minimum of 10 years experience.
  • We run an efficient operation allowing us to launch quicker than anyone else.
  • Because we're efficient and use the latest online and mobile technologies we can keep our prices down.
  • We can help with consumer, B2B or multi country surveys.
  • We can produce complex studies if required but we recognise the best ideas are often the simplest and we're happy with any degree of complexity you choose to throw at us - from launching a single question survey to a complicated piece of flash programming.

Costs - what to expect

  • Fly can be very cost effective because of our experience, technology and efficiency.
  • A typical 10 question survey with 1000 completed interviews with representative UK consumers will cost in the region of £3,200.
  • However we are also happy launching even just a single question for £500.
  • Business targets generally cost around £20 - £25 per interview all in but please ask for a quote!

Timing - how quick we can be

  • If you've got up to 10 questions and you need to launch today, you've come to the right place.
  • We launch when you want with as many questions as you want - there's no waiting around for omnibus schedules!
  • We launch any day of the week including weekends.
  • Data collection will typically take 24 - 36 hours to collect 1,000 interviews.
  • Many clients schedule launches for Friday so they can have the data when they get into work on Monday morning.
  • If you need 1000 responses within 24 hours then we can simply send out more invitations but there is an extra charge for this express service and most clients find our standard service extremely fast in any case.
